We can help you figure out what the right course of action is for your specific situation and objectives.
To execute a sound retirement strategy, asset and income protection are a must. Designing a plan that encompasses managing costs for extended periods of care and disability insurance can help create the necessary balance in a portfolio to ensure stability and protection of assets.
Retirement can signify a lot of things to a lot of people: sailing off into the sunset with your beloved; never having to worry about waking up early to catch the morning train; finger-painting with your grandkids. But to make these dreams a reality, you'll need to create a nest egg that will make your retirement years as comfortable, if not more, as when you were working. Essentially, it's never too early to think about saving for your golden years. As the average lifespan increases, you should be prepared to put aside more to accommodate a longer retirement. We understand the importance of having enough to spend during your retirement. That’s why we offer a process that can help you enjoy your retirement, and make the money you’ve worked for years to save go even further.
When you leave a job or retire, you have a decision to make regarding your 401(k) money. While leaving those assets in the former employer's plan is an option, a rollover can be a consideration. Working with your tax advisor, we can help you determine the right course of action for you. This may include: leaving the funds in your existing plan, if permitted, or rolling them into your new employer's plan, if one is available and rollovers are permitted. Each choice offers advantages and disadvantages, depending on your specific needs and retirement plan, such as the desired investment options and services, applicable fees, expenses, and withdrawal options, as well as required minimum distributions and tax treatment of applicable options.
Before rolling over the proceeds of your retirement plan to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) or annuity, consider whether you would benefit from other possible options such as leaving the funds in your existing plan or transferring them into a new employer’s plan. You should consider the specific terms and rules that relate to each option including: the available investment options, applicable fees and expenses, the services offered, the withdrawal options, the potential flexibility around taking IRS required minimum distributions from the option, tax consequences of withdrawals and of removing shares of employer stock from your plan, possible protection from creditors and legal judgments and your unique situation. Neither New York Life Insurance Company nor its agents provide tax or legal advice. Consult your own tax and or legal advisors regarding your particular situation.
We work with our clients to design and implement a variety of accumulation and retirement income plans, offering insurance products, investment programs ranging from separately managed portfolios of stocks and bonds to mutual funds, and access to third-party wealth management programs. We offer a consistent process to help ensure management of investment assets according to your goals, risk tolerances and time horizon. We then monitor your plan on a continual basis, and adjust and evolve as your needs change.
Consider this scenario: The car's packed and the teary good-byes have been exchanged. You may feel as though your baby's leaving you, but this is one of the proudest moments of your life. You've scrimped and saved to afford your child's education, and now that the day is finally here, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Thank goodness you planned ahead and started saving early so that the next four years won't be so financially stressful. Now, consider the alternative: What if you didn't plan? Then those next four years could be your worst nightmare, turning into a juggling act of student and parent loans, financial aid requests, and semesterly payments. Fortunately, we understand the importance of funding your children's education, and, therefore, offer options to help you meet that goal. Of course, we can't promise that you won't get the occasional phone call, "Mom? Dad? I'm a little low on cash..."
With hard work and careful planning during your income-earning years, you may have built a healthy nest egg, sufficient to ensure a comfortable, independent retirement. You may actually be in the enviable position of being able to leave something to those you love the most: your spouse, children, grandchildren, and perhaps your favorite charities. Now's the time to seize the moment and put together a plan that creates a legacy for those you love.
